Away From Home (Part 2)
[THSR - Taiwan High Speed Rail]
It’s winter in HsinChu and the place being a “wind city” makes the temperate even colder. *Brrr* Sometimes my Taiwan colleagues ponder if I am wearing enough to keep warm.
I seriously do not have the habit of checking weather forecast because Singapore is either rain or shine. I have no clue how to react if there’s typhoon or hurricane or earthquake. IMO our sunny island is really very well sheltered, so learn to cherish what you have!
Anyway food is so-so in Hsinchu. I didn’t find any food addictive and eventually lost 1kg+ after 2 wks.
There is this milk tea stall which is the origin of all milk tea. Their original milk tea with tiny pearls only 35TWD - Cheap Cheap! I also tried 鐵觀音Milk Tea….wahhhh very nice!!! Milk tea was never the same for me anymore. In SG, I think MOS Burger serves nicer Milk Tea than those Bubble Tea Stalls. Recently found imported Taiwan Milk Tea but found it too sweet. In Taiwan, you can control the sugar level - 无糖/少糖/半糖.
[Milk Tea]
Friends tell me the instant noodles are superb here and so I just grab anything that looks decent from the supermarket. Preserved meat included.
[Beef Instant Noodle]
Sometimes I don’t eat a full meal, I settle with dairy products which I seldom come across in SG.
[Papaya Milk and Oat Milk]
On my first weekend, I was off to visit Danshui in Taipei. Took a free shuttle bus and arrived in Taipei after 1 hour.
Took their city train to the furthest north station. This place is well known for food and native products.
[Taiwan Sausage wrapped with Glutinous Rice TWD50]
[Very cheap and tall ice cream for TWD10]
[Fresh Pink Guava]
[Ah Ma Plum Tea]
I was also adventurous enough to wait 1 hour before getting a seat at Din Tai Fung. Conclusion: Cramp (3 narrow levels) and the food taste the same. So why bother to squeeze into such a small restaurant!!!
Everything gets a little boring when you are exploring alone. Let alone this happen 6 months ago!!! See more pictures here.
BTW Something interesting spotted.
