HK June’08 - Day Two

[Star Ferry Terminal]

Rise and shine! Today we walked over to Harbour City which is about one street away from our place. The shopping mall is full of branded labels…nice to ogle at but no money to buy =(

Anyway, the main objective was to locate Patagonia outlet in search for the label’s renowed Houdini specially for Kein. This windbreaker is really light but doesn’t look like it’s worth 125USD. -.-” Despite the price, it is completely out of stock throughout all local outlets.

As YB and I had remaining two donuts for brunch, we ended up having tea at Sweet Dynasty 糖朝 which is located opposite Harbour City along Canton Road. The restaurant which is recommended by a colleague, is lavishly decorated. As a result, I feared the price on the menu. Luckily, afternoon tea is exceptional affordable.

We each ordered a set of main dish and dessert for 26HKD. Every 30HKD, customer can order a drink for free. In total, we had mixed seafood porridge with almond paste, yuan yang dumplings with sesame paste, xia jiao, cheong fun and xian shui jiao turned spring roll for 102HKD in a bill. Cheap ahhhhhh!!!!

[Yum Yum @ Sweet Dynasty]

After such a sumptuous meal, the Z monster conquered us. We rested for an hour and refreshen up before making ur way to Causeway Bay to meet SY who was here for work.

At Causeway Bay, we had no idea which MTR Exit to meet him so the group agreed on Exit A without any objections. Apparently, Exit A which leads to Times Square, is the longest underpass and furthest from Exit D where Excelsior Hotel (SY is staying there) is located.天啊!!!

However, this gave SY a chance to show us around Times Square and the surrounding little shops in Causeway. This place is amazing!!! Unique boutiques and lots of restaurants serving yummy food. SY brought us to 美心MX (a fast food outlet that serves chinese/japanese/western meals) in search for Shabu Shabu. Unfortunately, this dish is only served during winter. YB & I shared melon soup with assorted meat rice set for 48HKD while SY ordered yummy steak. I would only patronise again if they are serving Shabu.

After dinner, SY led us to Jaffe Road towards his hotel. Along the way, I spotted the must-eat on my list. While SY returned to hotel to prepare to pick his wife from evening flight, YB and I headed towards Lucky Dessert is quite renowed in Hong Kong. It is a dessert shop which absolutely changed my opinion of mango dessert. Luckily we were there early, the queue was not very long.

[Mango Glutinous Roll 芒果糯米卷 32KHD]

Just look at how thick the mango is. The layer of glutinous looks thin but can be quite filling. Thumbs up!

[Mango Sago with Grapefruit 楊枝金露 25HKD]

This is the ultimate dessert which totally changed my standard of Mango Sago desserts. Half the bowl of dessert is fresh mango…a must-order!

[Banana Crepe]

Love the fragrance of Banana! Gotta embrace fiber if you’re eating tons of good food in HK!

Ohhhhhh I’m so in heaven! How can one write about food and not be hungry…I miss HK already =(

Anyway, YB and I began our shopping in the area and came upon this mini shopping arcade called Laforet 東角. Each little shop in this arcade has its own unique flavour. I managed to grab two pairs of nice earrings for 40HKD and a top for 120HKD. Note: Check out the angels at the entrance of the arcade.

[Laforet 東角]

It was pouring by the time we explored all 3 storeys. YB & I backtracked to TImes Square all drenched and decided to head back to Tsim Sha Tsui.

The night is still young! I was not satisfied with our degree of exploration, so we continued to look around our area. We located Hau Foo St where Amy the owner of guesthouse recommended some cafes.

[Yunan Guo Qiao Mian Xian 云南过桥面线]

This restaurant selling Yunan Guo Qiao Mian Xian 云南过桥面线 seems interesting and we gave it a try. Very different indeed but not a want-to-order again dish.

Back to guesthouse. End of Day Two.
