Away from Home (Part 1)

A few virgin events took place in Feb’09.

1. My longest time away from home and YB - 15 days.

2. My first overseas assignment.

3. My first time to Taiwan.

Sounds exciting? Let’s see about that!

On departure day, YB came over to my place to specially send me off at the airport. All was under control until the moment I bid my goodbye after clearing the immigrations - I teared because I have already missed him that much.

PS Cafe

PS Cafe

[PS.Cafe Harding]

YB has been really stressed at work and I’m so bringing him out for a nice birthday dinner.

Always wanted to visit Dempsey Hill but never really had the chance.

After going through food reviews of restaurants located there, I made dinner reservation at PS Cafe.

YB and I took bus 106 from Town and alighted one stop after Geneagles. Walked up the stairs and follow through along Harding Road. We were on the right track until we came upon a map which confused us big time. Apparently the map was facing north but we are facing south towards the map. Geez -.-”

The Redang Island Getaway’08

[Laguna Redang Island Resort]

Pulau Redang is located in the South China Sea off the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It lies about 45km northeast of Kuala Terengganu, the state capital of Terengganu, and out 22km off Tanjung Merang, the closest point on the mainland. In general, it’s about 10 hours coach ride from Singapore and 1 hour ferry transfer from Merang Jetty.

31 Aug 08 Sat
10:30pm YB and I set off to Kuala Terengganu via Konsortium coach. We have bought the 3D2N coach package from NATAS Travel’08 at $440 each (before UOB discount of $30). If you were to consider direct accomodation booking and purchase coach tickets from Singapore, the price is almost the same or more.

Aspirations

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them.
But I can look up and see the beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead.
- Louisa May Alcott

Those were my parting words to my ex-colleagues about a month ago. Along with the picture (enlarged on click) and caption, my email have inspired and touched many colleagues. No kidding!

I liked my job but things seem to be out of hand over the time. Underpaid, overworked yet under achieved. Sounds familiar?

HK Jun’08 - The Last Night

[HK Cultural Centre]

Our last full day in HK and we really went full gear ahead.

Amy recommended Dim Sum at Chao Inn located in One Peking near Harbour City. The restaurant has a great view of Hong Island and you can even see the iconic building on the Peak.

[Chao Inn @ One Peking]

[Modern teahouse with empty bird cages]

[This is only half of what we ordered]

Our table was filled with 250HKD worth of dim sum and was probably the most dim sum two persons could ever eat. We managed to eat everything except two char siew baos….太饱了!

HK Jun’08 - Day Three (Macau Day Trip)

[Ruins of St Paul's, Macau]

The weather was perfect for our planned day trip to Macau with S&S (SY and wife). Would LadyLuck be on my side? Hee cross fingers!

YB and I made our way to Causeway Bay?銅鑼灣 to meet S&S for breakfast at a nearby teahouse. Apparently, I was the only one who can communicate in Cantonese. My dialect is limited to half a bucket of water but it is better than nothing at all =P

HK June’08 - Day Two

[Star Ferry Terminal]

Rise and shine! Today we walked over to Harbour City which is about one street away from our place. The shopping mall is full of branded labels…nice to ogle at but no money to buy =(

Anyway, the main objective was to locate Patagonia outlet in search for the label’s renowed Houdini specially for Kein. This windbreaker is really light but doesn’t look like it’s worth 125USD. -.-” Despite the price, it is completely out of stock throughout all local outlets.

Hong Kong Jun’08 - Day One

[Adri's first bite on Krispy Kreme!]

After about 4 hours on Jetstar, YB and I finally reached Hong Kong! 6 hours ago, I was giving the taxi driver an earful for taking us to the airport via AYE-CTE-PIE-TPE. Luckily we were in time to check in. *blow hot air out*

The moment I stepped foot on the arrival hall, I headed right to Krispy Kreme….Ohhhh I’m so excited because I’ve heard so much about their tasty donuts! 6 donuts for 58HKD and we chose (from top left) blueberry, cinnamon apple, chocolate iced custard, chocolate fudge cake, original and chocolate. Not sure how good they taste at that point because we didn’t want to stop to eat.

The End of L Plate Diary

Today marks the day I passed my TP test! Finally it’s all over! *Phew*

Am I buying car? In my dreams! I’m not earning enough to support and furthermore fuel is ridiculously expensive. YB has no intention to buy yet especially since he is working so near to home -.-”.

So…more roadtrips!!! Heee ^_^

Hmmm I have no idea how much Vit M is spent. $2-3k? 35 lessons in total I think.

Anyway, now its time to move on to next stage of life.
